We’re seeking dependable and hardworking Kitchen Stewards to support our culinary operations by maintaining clean equipment, cookware, utensils, kitchen areas, and workspaces while helping the culinary team operate efficiently throughout every service.
This is an important behind-the-scenes role for someone who takes pride in cleanliness, teamwork, organization, and doing their part to support an excellent guest experience.
About the Role
The Kitchen Steward supports daily culinary operations by maintaining sanitation standards, operating dishwashing equipment, cleaning kitchen tools and equipment, managing waste, organizing back-of-house areas, and assisting the culinary team with general kitchen support.
The role works closely with chefs, cooks, kitchen assistants, and other culinary team members to ensure the kitchen remains clean, safe, fully stocked, and operationally ready.
Kitchen Stewards are expected to work with urgency, follow established sanitation procedures, and maintain high standards throughout preparation, service, and closing periods.
What You’ll Do
Dishwashing & Kitchen Sanitation
Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, cookware, utensils, trays, containers, and kitchen equipment.
Operate commercial dishwashing and sanitation equipment safely and correctly.
Ensure clean equipment and serviceware are available when needed.
Maintain cleanliness of dishwashing areas throughout each shift.
Follow established cleaning and sanitation procedures.
Maintain appropriate chemical concentrations and safe chemical-handling practices.
Keep floors, drains, sinks, walls, work surfaces, and assigned kitchen areas clean and sanitary.
Culinary Support
Support chefs, cooks, and culinary team members with clean equipment and supplies.
Return cleaned items to appropriate storage locations promptly.
Maintain organized storage and back-of-house areas.
Assist with basic kitchen setup and breakdown as assigned.
Support kitchen readiness before and during service periods.
Help replenish approved kitchen supplies when needed.
Respond quickly to operational needs during high-volume periods.
Waste & Recycling Management
Remove kitchen waste and refuse according to established procedures.
Maintain clean and organized waste-disposal areas.
Separate recycling and other waste streams where applicable.
Prevent unnecessary buildup of waste during service.
Follow food-safety and sanitation requirements when handling waste.
Report leaks, spills, pest concerns, or sanitation issues promptly.
Equipment & Asset Stewardship
Handle dishes, glassware, cookware, utensils, and equipment carefully to minimize breakage or damage.
Use cleaning chemicals and supplies responsibly.
Maintain dishwashing equipment and report operational problems promptly.
Support proper storage of kitchen tools and equipment.
Help protect company assets through careful handling and proper cleaning procedures.
Food Safety & Compliance
Follow all established food-safety, sanitation, hygiene, and safety procedures.
Maintain clean and sanitary work areas at all times.
Follow proper procedures for handling chemicals and cleaning products.
Use required personal protective equipment where applicable.
Report safety hazards, equipment issues, or sanitation concerns immediately.
Support kitchen compliance with established health and operational standards.
Teamwork & Communication
Work collaboratively with the culinary team throughout each shift.
Communicate clearly regarding equipment, supplies, sanitation needs, or operational concerns.
Support fellow Kitchen Stewards during high-volume service periods.
Participate in pre-shift or operational briefings when required.
Maintain a respectful, professional, and team-focused approach.
Assist other kitchen areas when reasonably assigned and operationally required.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, commercial kitchen, food-service environment, or similar operation preferred.
Ability to safely operate commercial dishwashing equipment or willingness to learn.
Ability to follow food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety procedures.
Ability to perform physically active work throughout the shift.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, Utility Steward, or similar back-of-house role.
Food Handler’s Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Experience working in a high-volume restaurant, resort, hotel, banquet, or hospitality environment.
Familiarity with commercial kitchen sanitation practices.

Working Conditions
This position operates in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.
The role requires extended periods of standing and walking and may involve exposure to heat, steam, water, cleaning chemicals, wet surfaces, food waste, and varying kitchen temperatures.
Kitchen Stewards must be comfortable performing repetitive cleaning and sanitation duties and working during busy service periods.
Evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events may be required based on operational needs.
