Barback

Department: Food Experience

Location: Harvest in the Gardens (HITG), Nassau, Bahamas

Behind Every Great Bar Is a Great Support Team

At Harvest in the Gardens (HITG), exceptional hospitality is built through teamwork.

Harvest in the Gardens is a completely alcohol-free environment. Our Barbacks support a vibrant, elevated beverage program built around handcrafted mocktails, specialty beverages, and creative non-alcoholic drinks—no alcohol is sold or served at HITG.

Our Bartenders create memorable guest experiences at the bar, but they cannot do it alone. Behind smooth, efficient service is a Barback who keeps the bar stocked, organized, clean, and ready for whatever the shift brings.

We're looking for a dependable, energetic, and team-focused Barback to support our Bartenders and help maintain exceptional service throughout our full-service restaurant.

If you enjoy working in a fast-paced hospitality environment, take pride in staying one step ahead, and aren't afraid to jump in wherever you're needed, this could be the role for you.

About the Role

As a Barback, you'll provide direct operational support to our Bartenders by ensuring the bar remains clean, organized, properly stocked, and service-ready throughout each shift.

You'll replenish beverages, glassware, ice, garnishes, supplies, and other bar essentials; maintain clean work areas; assist with setup and breakdown; and respond quickly when Bartenders need support.

This is a hands-on role where speed, awareness, organization, and teamwork matter.

You'll work closely with Bartenders and the broader restaurant team to help ensure guests receive prompt, professional, and seamless service.

What You'll Do

Support the Bartenders

  • Keep Bartenders supplied with the products, equipment, and materials needed throughout service.
  • Replenish ice, glassware, garnishes, beverages, napkins, straws, and other bar supplies.
  • Anticipate Bartender needs and restock items before supplies run low.
  • Retrieve products and supplies quickly during busy service periods.
  • Help maintain an organized workflow so Bartenders can remain focused on serving guests.

Keep the Bar Service-Ready

  • Assist with opening and closing bar procedures.
  • Stock and organize bar stations before service.
  • Maintain clean and organized bar work areas throughout the shift.
  • Remove used glassware and return clean glassware to appropriate stations.
  • Keep coolers, storage areas, and supply stations organized.
  • Assist with cleaning equipment, surfaces, and service areas as assigned.

Support Exceptional Guest Experiences

  • Maintain a professional and welcoming presence around guests.
  • Respond courteously when approached by guests and connect them with a Bartender or Server when appropriate.
  • Work with urgency while maintaining Harvest's hospitality standards.
  • Help ensure the bar remains clean, attractive, and guest-ready throughout service.

Protect Product & Supplies

  • Follow proper stocking and product-rotation procedures.
  • Handle glassware, equipment, beverages, and supplies carefully.
  • Help minimize breakage, waste, and unnecessary product loss.
  • Notify Bartenders or restaurant leadership when stock levels are low.
  • Assist with inventory counts and restocking activities when assigned.

Be a Great Teammate

  • Communicate clearly with Bartenders and restaurant team members.
  • Support Restaurant Servers, Food Runners, Bussers, and other team members when operationally appropriate.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and operational briefings.
  • Respond positively to changing priorities during busy periods.
  • Contribute to a respectful, professional, and team-oriented work environment.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Dependable and ready to work.
  • Fast-moving without sacrificing attention to detail.
  • Organized and able to anticipate what is needed next.
  • Comfortable working behind the scenes to help others succeed.
  • A strong communicator and team player.
  • Professional around guests and fellow team members.
  • Able to remain composed during busy service periods.
  • Willing to learn and take direction.
  • Committed to cleanliness, safety, and exceptional hospitality.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous restaurant, hospitality, food service, or customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Barback, Busser, Food Runner, or restaurant support experience.
  • Experience working in a full-service restaurant or high-volume hospitality environment.
  • Familiarity with bar setup, stocking, glassware, and service procedures.
  • Food Handler's Certificate or willingness to obtain one.

What Success Looks Like

You'll know you're succeeding when:

  • Bartenders have what they need before they have to ask.
  • Bar stations remain stocked and organized throughout service.
  • Clean glassware and supplies are consistently available.
  • Restocking happens without interrupting guest service.
  • The bar remains clean, safe, and guest-ready.
  • You communicate effectively and respond quickly during busy periods.
  • Bartenders can focus on their guests because they know they can rely on you.

Work Environment

This is an active, hands-on hospitality position in a fast-paced full-service restaurant environment.

The role requires extended periods of standing and walking and frequent movement between the bar, storage, service, and restaurant areas. Barbacks must be comfortable working with a sense of urgency during high-volume periods.

Evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events are a regular part of restaurant operations.

Who You'll Work With

You'll work most closely with our Bartenders, providing the direct support they need to deliver exceptional bar service.

You'll also work alongside:

  • Full-Service Restaurant Manager
  • Restaurant Servers
  • Restaurant Hosts
  • Food Runners
  • Bussers
  • Culinary Team
  • Food Experience Team

At Harvest in the Gardens, no exceptional guest experience is created by one person. Every role matters, and great teamwork is what keeps service moving.

Join Harvest in the Gardens as a Barback and help keep exceptional hospitality moving, one stocked station, clean glass, and supported Bartender at a time.
